Rebel Artefacts (Saba'a)

In the ‘Rebel Artefacts’ series, mathematical ideas help create complex sculptural works. Developable surfaces are a mathematical concept that describes how flat sheet material can be rolled or curved in three dimensional shapes and is traditionally used in areas such as industrial manufacturing, boat building or cartography. In these pieces, developable surfaces were used to design and build a sculptural vase shape out of layered, laser cut papers, the final form appearing almost like carved ivory.
