Avicennia Vessel

Inspired by the mangrove forests near our studio in Abu Dhabi, the Avicennia Vessel depicts the flowers and leaves of this fascinating ecosystem. The mangrove flowers between May and June with an array of four point petals which later become the fruit for new trees. The flowers and the leaves of the mangrove were depicted here in an ornamental style for this sculptural work, showcasing their delicate and fascinating structural elements.

In these pieces, developable surfaces were used to design and build a sculptural vase shape out of layered, laser cut papers, the final form appearing almost like carved ivory or wood.
